Here is a letter that I wrote to Jupiter from Joseph.
Hi Bailey. Right now in class we are creating critical thinking questions. What is your favorite part of the book so far? Thomas thinks that the best part is when Joseph's dad pushes in him to the living room. My favorite part of the book so far is when Joseph tells Jack and his family about Madeline. The question that Thomas and I have for you is:
What traits do you think Joseph's dad portrays and why do you think that? Can you think of one person that reminds you of Joseph's dad?
For chapter 6, we had to choose 3-4 songs that would relate to the book Orbiting Jupiter. Here are the songs that I chose and why.
If you were to write a soundtrack for your Orbiting Jupiter movie, which 3-4 would you choose and why did you choose them?
If I had to choose 3 songs for my Orbiting Jupiter soundtrack, they would be Beautiful World by Carolina Liar, Fresh Eyes by Andy Grammer and Neverland by Zendaya.
The first song that I would choose for my Orbiting Jupiter is “Beautiful World” by Carolina Liar. I would choose this song because when we first met Joseph in the beginning of the book, he was very depressed. He was really depressed because for the last little while because he has many life changing events that changed him for the worse. He got taken away from Madeline, he never got to meet his daughter Jupiter, he got sent to Stone Mountain juvenile detention center and finally he found out that the love of his life (Madeleine) is dead. All of these massive life events that Joseph went through relate to the song “Beautiful World”. These massive life events that Joseph went through relate to the song “Beautiful World” because it is was hard for Joseph to keep going everyday. He was just trying to get through everyday as different challenges arise every day. A couple line that relate to my reasoning is, “I'm just trying to forget. Keep it real, keep it simple.”Another reason why I chose this song is because there is a lot of times when the book is really sad or really depressing and the song is really sad or depressing. An example of a sad or depressing moment in the book is when Joseph was telling Jack and his family about his past. This is a really sad/depressing part of the book because Jack and his family got to know everything that happened to Joseph to get him to this point in time. Overall, this is why I would choose the song Beautiful World by Carolina Liar for one of my songs for my Orbiting Jupiter soundtrack.
The second song that I would choose for my Orbiting Jupiter movie is “Fresh Eyes” by Andy Grammer. In the song “Fresh Eyes it explains that you don’t have to be perfect to be cared about. This relates to the book Orbiting Jupiter because with Jack and his family adopting Joseph I think it lit up a light in Joseph’s world. Joseph wasn’t used to anybody other than Madeline to stick up for him or be on his side. But now Joseph has a supportive family to come home to everyday. Jack and his family would most likely do what they can to make sure that Joseph is happy and so he can try to live as ordinary of a life he can. One line from the song that goes with my reasoning is “So suddenly I'm in love with a stranger. I can't believe she's mine. Now all I see is you with fresh eyes, fresh eyes.” Another reason why I think this song should be part of my Orbiting Jupiter soundtrack is because the song says “Appreciation, well, it comes and it goes”.This part of the song relates to when Joseph first began to milk Darcy. These two things go together because when Joseph first got out to the barn he got showed how to milk a cow. Then it was his turn. Jack and his dad had appreciation that they had someone else to help them. They understood that he wouldn’t be perfect at first but they knew that he would get better over time. Overall, this is why I would choose the song Fresh Eyes by Andy Grammer to be part of my Orbiting Jupiter soundtrack.
The final song that I would choose to put into my Orbiting Jupiter movie is “Neverland” by Zendaya. In the song “Neverland”some of the lyrics are,”Whenever I was frightened, or if I ever felt alone. I turned to the night sky, and a star I call my own. Somewhere I could run to, just across the Milky Way. If you like I could take you, it's just a light year and a day.” This part of the song relates to Orbiting Jupiter because every night Joseph would go to the window to see if he could see the planet Jupiter. When he would do this, it would remind him of Madeline and Jupiter. It would also remind Joseph when everything was the way it was before his life took a turn for the worse. He probably could still see himself walking 7 miles to Madeline’s house and 7 miles back home. Joseph probably felt very lonely at Stone Mountain. At that point Joseph probably did not think that he would have anybody else to trust but Madeline. But now Joseph has Jack and his family that he can trust. Overall, this is why I would choose the song Neverland by Zendaya to be part of my Orbiting Jupiter soundtrack.
Overall I would choose the songs Beautiful World by Carolina Liar, Fresh Eyes by Andy Grammer and Neverland by Zendaya for my Orbiting Jupiter soundtrack.
We just finished chapter 5 of Orbiting Jupiter. What are your thoughts about the fight that Joseph got into? Did you agree that Jack should've got in trouble?
